The dampers and springs on your washing machine are designed to absorb the vibration of your washing machine as the load moves around inside the drum.

Normally you will see two dampers or shock absorbers mounted to the bottom of the tub or tank unit and two springs at the top that are mostly there to keep the tub unit from drifting out of position.

In essence the dampers or shocks do all the work, the springs are really only there for support.

Of course dampers can go faulty and they do as they can be very hard worked but one of the big reasons that we see them failing is from machines being subjected to higher than normal use or, because they have been overloaded and therefore overworked.

If yours do fail please try not to overload your machine and they probably will not fail again.
