The selector switch in your oven more or less does exactly as described, it is the switch that sits behind the main oven function control knob that will select the various different cooking functions of your built in oven or cooker.

In most cases, this is simply a matter of wiring the new replacement switch by terminal number to replace it. However, we would suggest that it is often a good idea to take a photo of the original in situ with the wiring clearly shown for reference, just in case you drop a wire.

Getting to the switch, however, can be a bit more tricky and the process will vary not only from brand to brand but also from model to model.

Usually, you can gain access to the switch by removing the top metal panel on a built-in oven although the oven will have to be removed from the kitchen unit to do that.

For cookers, this can be much harder as you will often have to remove the side panels and hob top in order to access the switch.

When accessing any of these areas you are working in areas that will carry mains power, please stay safe and ensure that the power to your built in oven or cooker is completely isolated from your mains power supply before beginning any repair work.

When you replace the switch ensure that all wiring is secured and there are no loose joints as, if there is that can burn out a new switch in a matter of days to some months.
