Washing machine and washer dryer door boor seals or gaskets, sometimes known as a rubber door seal, door bellows seal or simply a washing machine door gasket are fairly easy to fit for the most part, even for a novice.

Although washing machine and washer dryer door seals are often referred to as being a "rubber door seal" they are in fact and, have been for many years, made from a silicone based compound as rubber would perish prematurely as well as getting dirty.

The rubber compound can also lose its shape easily unlike modern washing machine door seals unless they are made from poor quality materials as many cheap ones often are in order to achieve a lower cost. Do note that using skin creams and so on can also wreck a door seal as the chemicals in a lot of them will cause the seal to deteriorate.

Washing machine door gaskets also suffer from problems with black mould or mildew in today's low water level but high-efficiency machines.

This effect can be helped by leaving the washing machine door ajar when not in use so that the door seal dries out and by regular maintenance washes or use of the Affresh washing machine cleaner.
